The Washington Redskins and Ron Rivera didn't waste any time locking up Jack Del Rio to be their defensive coordinator. There were a lot of rumors about the move happening right after Rivera was hired and according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the move is now official.

Rivera is a defense-first coach and he is expected to have a big say on gameplans and personal for the defense. On game days though it will be Del Rio who is on the headset making the calls.

Del Rio is one of the most respected defensive minds in all of the NFL and if the team can get the right personnel in, the Redskins defense could find a lot of success.

Del Rio during his career has turned around subpar defenses and has done it quickly. In 2012 with the Denver Broncos he improved a defense that was ranked 13th in 2011 to 2nd in his first year with the team.

Rivera is expected to keep Kevin O'Connell to continue to be the team's offensive coordinator according to Jason La Canfora. O'Connell and rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins made big strides the last month of the season working together, and Haskins made it clear he wanted to see his offensive coordinator stick around.

The most important position on the team is the quarterback and if the Redskins are going to reach their potential Haskins is going to be key.

With an improved Haskins and an improved defense, maybe next year the Redskins will be on the fast track to the playoffs.
