The Washington Redskins lost wide receiver Jamison Crowder to the New York Jets in free agency this offseason, leaving a rather big hole in the Redskins' passing game. However, head coach Jay Gruden feels that his replacement may be on the roster.

That player is second-year wide out Trey Quinn.

Quinn was drafted by Washington last year and had an impressive preseason, but a persistent ankle injury during the regular season limited him to just nine receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Still, Gruden is excited for what Quinn will bring to the table in 2019:

“Obviously losing Crowder hurts, hurts quite a bit,” Gruden said, according to Kyle Stackpole of the Redskins' official team website. “But I’m ready to watch Trey Quinn jump in that slot role and dominate the position. I’m excited for him.”

Quinn wasn't exactly highly touted coming out of college, as Washington was able to pick up the Southern Methodist University product in the seventh round.

But Quinn is working hard and is preparing himself for the rigors of potentially earning a starting job going into next season:

“I did enough last year I guess to get that comment [from Gruden], but I haven't done anything this year,” Quinn said. “As far as I know, I've played two-and-a-half games, and that's not enough to be a starting slot receiver. So I'm going to take this offseason pretty seriously.”

The Redskins are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won seven games and missed the playoffs.
