Legendary Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann is considering letting rookie signal caller Dwayne Haskins wear his No. 7 jersey.

Theismann told “Redskins Talk's” JP Finlay, Mitch Tischler, Pete Hailey, and Ben Standig on NBC Sports Washington (via Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams) on April 29 he wants to sit down and talk to Haskins about the issue.

“I'm anxious to sit down and talk to Dwayne about that. I'm not opposed to it. I'm not saying yes yet, but I really want to sit down and talk to the young man and get a chance to meet him.

I know he's reached out and said he wants to ask me, so as early as I can get back into town and be able to set up an opportunity when he gets into town to be able to sit down and talk to him about it.

It's what's inside the jersey that makes a big difference. I've been very honored to have the Washington Redskins not have it issued to anyone over 30-plus years, and this is the first seven that we've had come along, I think.

So I really want to sit down and have a visit with him and talk to him about it, and then we'll sort of decide going forward.”

According to Williams, no Redskins player has worn No. 7 since Theismann played his last down in 1985. For his part, Haskins wore No. 7 when he was the quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Hopefully, Theismann and Haskins find time to discuss the jersey issue. If Theismann agrees to let Haskins wear No. 7, it should be a sign of great things to come.

Many people consider No. 7 lucky. Haskins is arguably the second-best signal caller in the 2019 NFL Draft behind Kyler Murray. The former wants to prove people wrong after he slid to 15th overall in the draft.

If Haskins can do that wearing No. 7 for the Redskins, it should be sweet vindication for him.
