The Washington Redskins have suffered multiple devastating blows under center in the 2018 NFL season. Fortunately, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel with quarterback Colt McCoy.

McCoy recently suffered what many thought was a season-ending leg injury. However, according to ESPN's John Keim, Washington is optimistic that he will only be out for a month:

There is hope that Colt McCoy will only be out a month. So the Redskins will wait to put him on IR just in case.

It is no secret that Washington has been plagued by the injury bug throughout the entire season. Regardless, the team was in first place until quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury. They were still hopeful about their chances with McCoy under center. He had been in Washington over the last several years and had a firm grasp of the playbook. Unfortunately, his injury forced the Redskins to insert the newly-signed quarterback Mark Sanchez.

The update indicates that Washington is holding out all hope for a potential return from McCoy. Regardless, there are a number of factors they must consider before potentially placing him on IR. If he were to be healthy enough to return in a month, then he may be able to play into the postseason if the team makes it that far. Of course, that may seem like a bit of a stretch at this point given the state of the roster. Washington may be better off using the spot on a player that could have an impact down the final stretch of the season.
