The Washington Redskins were reportedly in the running to trade for Josh Gordon, but that apparently didn’t work out for them. Instead, the Redskins are signing a different wide receiver in Breshad Perriman, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This transaction came a day after the Redskins took a 21-9 loss to the Indianapolis at home wherein they struggled in the passing game. Alex Smith threw for 292 yards but didn’t have a touchdown, while a running back, Chris Thompson, led the team in receiving yards and receptions with 92 and 13, respectively. In Washington, Breshad Perriman will look to add depth and carve out a significant role in the receiving corps. Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson are the two top receivers behind No. 1 downfield option Jamison Crowder, so consider Perriman a threat to supplant either man in the wide receivers pecking order.

Perriman was selected by the Baltimore Ravens 26th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, though, he missed his entire rookie year due to a knee injury. He would make his pro debut the following year. All told, Perriman has played a total of 27 games (four starts) and amassed 576 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 43 receptions so far in his career.

The soonest Perriman can see action in Redskins threads will be this coming Sunday against the Green Bay Packers at home.

It’s worth noting that at the time of Perriman’s signing with the Redskins, star wide receiver Dez Bryant is still a free agent.
