Aaron Colvin wasn't without a job for long. Two days after his surprise release by the Houston Texans, the veteran cornerback has been signed by the Washington Redskins, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Colvin was waived by the Texans after a dispiriting performance in a 30-27 season-opening loss to the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. He was targeted on a pair of touchdown passes to Taysom Hill and Tre'Quan Smith in the third quarter alone as the Saints began their comeback from a double-digit halftime deficit. Maybe more damning was late in the fourth quarter, when Colvin's off coverage during a crucial snap allowed Ted Ginn an easy nine-yard reception, setting up Will Lutz for a game-winning, 58-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining.

”Aaron worked hard for us, was a good teammate, a good pro, we just felt like it was in the best interest of our team and for Aaron to get a fresh start and for us to move in a different direction,” Houston coach Bill O'Brien said upon Colvin's release, per the AP.

Colvin, a fourth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, signed a four-year, $34 million contract with the Texans that included $18 million worth of guarantees in March of last year. He played 10 games for Houston in 2018, starting two and finishing 29 tackles, one pass defensed, and two fumble recoveries. Expect the 27-year-old to immediately play a role in the defensive backfield for Washington.

In a corresponding move, the Redskins promoted wide receiver Robert Davis, a sixth-round pick in 2017, from the practice squad to the active roster.
