The Indiana Pacers have waived forward George Niang, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Niang had a very short stint in Indiana, playing scrap minutes in 23 appearances and tallying only 21 total points for the season.

The Iowa State product was victim of a somewhat faulty relationship between the Pacers organization and the D-League.

Despite not having a direct affiliative relationship with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, rookie Joe Young only played two games with the D-League team while Niang played in just six. Neither player warranted a permanent rotation spot.

While it is a relatively small sample size against players not as talented as the NBA's, Niang’s six games saw averages of 19.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, assuring his ability of making winning plays just like he did in college.

The 24-year-old will be given a chance again in this league, but will need to show that he can compensate for his lack of defensive instinct and lack of athleticism with his rare pass-first mentality and basketball IQ at the offensive end.
