Respawn Entertainment reveals their plans to remove tap-strafing in Apex Legends in a future update.

Recently on Twitter, Respawn Entertainment announced their plans on getting rid of tap-strafing in Apex Legends. They’re currently aiming to apply this change come the Apex Legends’ 10.1 patch. The reason behind removing this technique is due to the difficulty to counter-attack during gunfights. Tap-strafing puts opposing squads at a disadvantage especially if the pushing squad is utilizing this method. Respawn is currently just scratching the surface regarding the upcoming patch, more details will be coming out soon.

Tap-strafing is a technique that almost every Apex player who’s familiar with airborne fundamentals utilizes. In fact, even newbies of the game could possibly be executing this method by accident since it involves slide jumping. Tap-strafing allows players to alter their midair trajectory while maintaining all the built-up momentum from sprinting. This becomes a challenge to enemy players trying to shoot you down in midair because of the unpredictability of the method. Apex Legends doesn’t necessarily teach this in their tutorial since it isn’t really an intended move supposedly utilized. However, knowing the tendencies of gamers, there are many ways to create new techniques with the base controls. For several months now, players have been utilizing this exploit in order to gain an upper hand especially in dodging.

Many players on social media shared their thoughts regarding the removal of tap-strafing. Majority think that the exploit shouldn’t be removed. Some explained that PC players utilize mouse wheel tap-strafing and exclaimed that the mouse wheel option should instead be begone.

Removing tap-strafing in Apex Legends is interesting, to say the least. How this will shape the landscape in Apex Legends should be something we investigate further.
