Soon-to-be free agent forward Carmelo Anthony intends to sign with the Houston Rockets after he clears waivers, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times. He is expected to sign a one-year, $2.4 million deal for the veteran's minimum with the team.

Anthony has been known to debate between the Rockets and the Miami Heat, taking meetings with both teams even before the Oklahoma City Thunder engaged in trade talks with the Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers.

While it's still unclear how the logistics will work out, it seems like it won't be long until Anthony is donning his new uniform, making this a matter of a few days before the trade agreement becomes official.

Anthony will be bought out by the Hawks, giving him every penny of the full $27.9 million salary he is owed this season, and allowing him to collect an extra check from the Rockets upon agreeing to a deal.

The perennial All-Star will have to clear waivers first, before inking a one-year agreement with the Rockets, who will play this on a trial basis — short on monetary assets after signing point guard Chris Paul to his promised four-year, $160 million deal.

The Rockets still need to seal the deal with center Clint Capela, likely a war of attrition at this point, given that no team in the league can offer him the max contract he wanted.
