Chris Paul expected to start vs. Suns, play 20 minutes for Rockets

Chris Paul

The Houston Rockets will gain a key weapon back on Thursday, as Chris Paul is expected to make his return from a knee injury against the Phoenix Suns, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

Paul will get the nod to start at point guard, but his minutes will be likely limited to 20, as Mike D’Antoni hopes to bring him along slowly due to his 14-game absence and to give him time to adjust to the pace of the game once again.

The Rockets have gone a formidable 10-4 in his absence, barely relenting their lead on the Western Conference last night after a loss to the Toronto Raptors at home, snapping a six-game win streak.

Houston will now start to build what it intended to after luring Paul away from the L.A. Clippers and into Clutch City at the start of the offseason, trading away half of the roster to secure the dime maestro’s services in the backcourt.

The dynamic between Paul and cornerstone James Harden has proved a dominant in the preseason, but showed some flaws in their only regular season game against the Golden State Warriors, still stuck on their ball-dominant ways despite coming away with a one-point win during the season-opener.

Only the continuity of games played throughout the season will tell just how this dynamic duo can fare and what effect they’ll have taking on a loaded West in the quest for a deep playoff run.
