Jalen Green put on a show on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, albeit on a 117-107 loss at home. Nevertheless, Green has turned lots of heads again with his performance in that contest, as his 40-point outburst moved him into the same group of players with at least five such scoring performances as a 21-year-old or younger in the NBA.

Jalen Green, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, and Carmelo Anthony all have five 40-point outings in the NBA before reaching age 22. Green won't be turning 22 until February of 2024, so there's a ton of time for him to surpass McGrady and company, and add more to his tally of 40-point nights. He's going to have plenty of work to do, though, to catch up with LeBron James, who had 16 of those during his early years in the league as the leader of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Among active players, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks owns the most scoring explosions under that stat qualification with 12, while Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is second with eight. It's fair to expect that Jalen Green will surpass both Young and Doncic, who are now both 24 years old.

At this point in his career, there's no questioning the ability of Jalen Green to get buckets. However, he still has to work on his efficiency. He entered the New Orleans game as just a career 41.7 percent shooter from the field with only a 33.3 3-point shooting percentage and 48.0 effective field goal percentage.

Jalen Green and the 18-52 Rockets will next deal with the Golden State Warriors Monday night at home.
