REPORT: Jeff Green working on new deal with Rockets

Jeff Green signed a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets, giving him a chance to become comfortable with the fit in Houston before committing to a deal for the rest of the season.

Well, it looks like it took only two games for Green to realize he’s going to be a good addition for the Rockets. The veteran small forward confirmed to Houston reporters on Monday that he and the franchise are looking to get a deal done after his 10-day contract ends.

Green is averaging 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds with the Rockets in 19.0 minutes per contest. He’s shooting 77.8 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc.

The Rockets added DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Green to bolster their defense in the wake of the Clint Capela trade. Houston now has PJ Tucker, Robert Covington, Carroll and Green as its wing defenders.

Green averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30 games for the Utah Jazz this season before getting cut. He shot 38.5 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Green has career NBA averages of 13.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 891 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, Memphis GrizzliesLos Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards and Jazz. He played with Rockets stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City.

The Rockets are 36-20 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
