Houston Rockets superstar John Wall is liking what he has been seeing so far from his new teammate Kevin Porter Jr.

Since being called up from Rockets' G League affiliate team the Rio Grande Valley Vipers last month, the 20-year-old has been a revelation and is proving to be a key mid-season acquisition for the franchise.

On Wednesday, Porter was once again a key asset for his new squad after he helped the Rockets snap a five-game losing streak with a 102-93 win over the Dallas Mavericks. According to Wall, he sees himself in the young star and that citizens of Clutch City are having fun with Porter around.

“People enjoy playing with him. I think he looks up to me a lot. I tell him all the time, you're just as talented as me, you got so much potential in this league.” Wall said of the Rockets' youngster, via Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.

Kevin Porter Jr. was acquired by the Rockets in January of this year from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a future draft pick. Prior to the trade, KPJ had yet to play a single game for the Cavs as he was dealing with a lot of controversy both on and off the locker room. After showing out in the G League, Porter was called back by Houston and his stock has continually risen since then.

The arrival of the Seattle native has been one of the better things to come out of the Rockets' wobbly 2020-21 campaign. Despite their 14-37 record, they've added an interesting young piece to their core in Porter and his tutelage under John Wall should only be beneficial for him and the franchise.
