Russell Westbrook insists he wasn’t surprised by Paul George’s trade request
George re-signed with the Thunder on July 6, 2018, signing a reported four-year, $137 million contract. Though he had previously stated that he was happy in Oklahoma City, the former Fresno State standout requested a trade in order to join Kawhi Leonard on the LA Clippers.
George and Westbrook have been friends for quite a while, as they have both served for Team USA in Olympic play. Westbrook, who was traded to the Rockets this summer after the George deal, says he was in communication with George throughout the process:
“I can’t be surprised if me and Paul were in communication the whole time,” Westbrook said in an interview with Rob Mahoney of Sports Illustrated. “So I wouldn’t say I was surprised at all. I’m all for doing what’s best for my teammates. If Paul felt like it was time for him to move on and explore options, then I’mma back him. That’s the type of relationship we have.”
Paul George and the Clippers are primed for a big season. In fact, many NBA experts are already viewing the team as a favorite in the Western Conference. Russell Westbrook, on the other hand, has reunited with James Harden in Houston. Let’s see how they fare in their new roles.
