The Colorado Rockies launched an investigation into a fan that appeared to have yelled a racial slur at Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson.

Reactions poured in as everyone demanded the fan be identified. Now, it turns out the fan was yelling at the Rockies mascot, Dinger and not at Brinson.

It's quite the turn from the initial report and the video that surfaced that seemed to indicate and show a racial slur being yelled at Brinson during his at bat in the top of the 9th inning at Coors Field on Sunday. Thankfully, it wasn't the case.

It seemed bizarre that a fan would yell that and nobody in the crowd would identify or call out the fan. It turns out, it's because he was yelling at the Rockies mascot the whole time.

Fan interactions turning real bad have for some reason become more common in the last couple months. Back in July, a fan at a Red Sox – Yankees game fired a ball back at Boston outfielder Alex Verdugo that struck him. Verdugo had flipped the ball up into the stands as a souvenir before having it launched back at him.

In the NBA playoffs this past summer popcorn was dumped on then Wizards guard Russell Westbrook, a fan spit towards Hawks guard Trae Young, a few Jazz fans yelled slurs at Ja Morant's family and beer was thrown at Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley.

Finding out that the Rockies fan was yelling at the mascot and not hurling racial slurs was a great conclusion to what initially looked like a horrific happening.
