There hasn't been a more impactful player in the NBA than Most Valuable Player award-winner Russell Westbrook, who took that same impact to the red carpet after being named Sports Illustrated's top athlete in their annual Fashionable 50 list.

Westbrook donned a classic splash dye denim jacket with badges to the red carpet along with a cool pair of infrared sunglasses — but what called everyone's attention was a black t-shirt that read “Fight Racism” over rips in the material.

“Obviously, it stands for a lot of things,” Westbrook told SI. “I love the shirt and the way kind of it rips. Just the whole message in the rips go all together in my opinion.”

While he didn't specify on the matter, the shirt itself makes a strong social statement, once again using his platform to bring up the issues this and other countries have faced for eons.

Despite many athletes being criticized for not making use of their fame to speak out, Westbrook isn't one to shy away from these kind of statements — especially when it's an ongoing fight that's been the source of much outcry in the NBA.
