The New Orleans Saints have an interesting challenge coming up when they play the Chicago Bears. However, they may have to play this without young running back Alvin Kamara.

Tom Pelissero confirmed through team sources that the team will take a careful approach with Kamara over the coming days. However, there's also the possibility of him recovering on time and making an appearance against the Bears.

It's encouraging news for Saints fans to know that their star running back will be able to return to the field sooner than expected. However, players' history with high-ankle issues should dampen the fans' hopes a good bit.

Saquon Barkley also endured a high-ankle sprain in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he hasn't returned to the field since then. He's reportedly set to make a Week 7 return, but nothing is set in stone.

Just looking at Barkley's injury situation, the possibility of Kamara having a similar recovery time is high. And if that is the case, it's better for coach Sean Payton to count on other offensive options and focus on getting him back in top shape.

After all, it's in the team's best interests to have him healthy for a long time. Kamara has been named to the Pro Bowl every year of his still-young career, and his performance so far also warrants another invite. This year, he's notched 373 rushing yards, 276 receiving yards, and a total of two TDs.

Kamara will be looking to get back on the field as fast as possible. However, the team should make sure that he's fully recovered before giving him the green light. Forcing the issue and playing him against Chicago will only worsen the injury.
