The New Orleans Saints are looking to maintain their star-studded roster this offseason. Head coach Sean Payton admits that doing so includes trying to keep running back Mark Ingram around for the long-haul.

Ingram is set to hit the market as a free agent unless the Saints can sign him before then. According to Luke Johnson of The Time-Picayune, Payton is hoping they can get a deal done.

“Man, he’s been a big part of our success,” Payton said. “There’s a clean vision for the player. Hopefully, we can get that done.”

Payton's optimism is certainly understandable. Ingram has played an integral role in the Saints offense over the last several years. Their success has largely been predicated on their versatile backfield. This could be why Payton is not the only one that hopes he will stick around.

Fellow running back Alvin Kamara has also made it known that he would love nothing for than to have Ingram back. This should come as no surprise considering the close friendship between the two. It is clear that Kamara would not want to share touches with anyone else but him.

Although there is a clear desire for Ingram to remain in New Orleans, it remains to be seen whether or not they are willing to meet his asking price. There is no question that the running back position has been undervalued in recent years. With Kamara set to get paid in the near future as well, it is far fetched to see them paying top-tier money for two running backs.
