There are a lot of questions facing the New Orleans Saints offense right now, the most glaring of which comes regarding the quarterback position. Following the injury to Jameis Winston, the Saints have deployed Trevor Siemian as the starting QB, opting against utilizing Taysom Hill, despite having just signed him to a contract extension.
The results haven't been pretty, culminating in a 31-6 loss to the Bills on Thanksgiving. When Payton was asked about the team's starter for the upcoming matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, the Saints head coach offered little to the media.
Per independent NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, Payton told reporters “we'll see,” when broached about the team's quarterback situation on Tuesday.
The Saints and Cowboys face off on Thursday, so hopefully this is a case of Payton playing his cards close to his chest, rather than the team having genuine uncertainties as to who will start under center in Week 13.
Siemian has featured in five games this year, starting four. He's 0-4 in games which he started, and has thrown nine touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 57.4% of his pass attempts this year. He had arguably his worst game of the year in the Saints' brutal loss to the Bills, prompting questions as to whether he was the right signal-caller to finish out the year for the team.
Hill didn't feature for a single snap in Week 12, but saw 31% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 11, and 22% in Week 10. The Cowboys' secondary has been excellent this year in terms of forcing turnovers, so whoever Payton does end up rolling with on Thursday will have his hands full.
For now, Payton isn't letting anything slip in regards to his Week 13 plans.
