If the New Orleans Saints' quarterback room wasn't depleted enough, the situation has become even worse. Jameis Winston is already out for the year with a torn ACL, while Trevor Siemian just tested positive for COVID-19. Now, Taysom Hill has also landed in health and safety protocols ahead of a key Week 16 clash with the Miami Dolphins, leaving Ian Book as the lone QB left on the roster right now.

Via Ian Rapoport:

A brutal situation for the Saints and frankly just some very bad luck. The NFL is getting hit extremely hard by the Omicron variant and unfortunately, New Orleans signal-callers are the latest victims.

This is an extremely important game for the Saints, who are on the brink of a Wild Card spot in the NFC with a 7-7 record. They've won two straight and just beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a wild 9-0 victory, shutting out TB12 in remarkable fashion.

However, Book has never attempted a pass in the NFL. He was drafted by the team in April and mostly served as a fourth-stringer when everyone else was healthy. It's extremely hard to know what to expect from the ex-Notre Dame standout, but he's definitely aware of how badly the Saints need him to step up on Monday night.

Let's see if the rookie can rise to the occasion.
