Savannah State makes a comeback after a solid defensive performance in the second half, defeating South Carolina Beaufort 80-69. The matchup took place at the Savannah Enmarket Arena as part of the Savannah Hoops invitational, with 1,075 fans in attendance.

In the first half, the Tigers were caught off balance by the Sand Sharks. The Sand Sharks expanded their lead with an 18-6 run, making the score 39-27. This forced Savannah State to make adjustments. However, the Tigers tightened things up on the defensive side, holding the Sea Sharks to just 3 points with over a minute left. Point guard Ajay Plain connected on a three-pointer right before the first half ended, making the score 41-32 with 3 seconds left.

The Tigers turned things around in the second period. Head Coach Horace Broadnax implemented a full-court pressure defense, leading to a 13-4 run and taking a 49-45 lead at the 15:13 mark. The teams exchanged ties for the next 7 minutes, with the game locked at 49, 54, 56, and 61. However, Savannah State gained momentum as Qua King's 3-pointer sparked an 18-4 run, propelling them to a 64-61 lead that they never surrendered. This victory marks their first win of the season.

Savannah State had four players score in double digits. Qua King led SSU with 29 points and nine rebounds. Ajay Plain added 14 points, 10 assists, and 5 steals, while Jordan Mikel and Chancellor Wilson scored 14 and 13 points respectively.

In their matchup, South Carolina Beaufort aimed to increase their scoring average of 119 points per game. However, they fell short and only managed to score 69 points. Qurahn Anderson led the sharks in scoring with 15 points, shooting 6/9 from the field.

Savannah State's next matchup will be played on November 27th in Savannah GA at Tiger Arena where they look to extend their winning streak against Central Michigan University at 7:30 p.m.
