Savannah State University’s women's basketball team set a new single-season record after defeating Trinity Baptist College 114-64 in Tiger Arena, breaking the old school record of 40 points in the third quarter, originally set back in 2018. The Lady Tigers scored 44 points, establishing a new school record.

Junior guard Mya Byrd was hitting from all over the field scoring a game-high 26 points as she connected on five 3-pointers on the defensive side and was a pest with 3 steals.

From the moment the ball was tipped off, the Tigers took control and never let the game get within single digits. SSU had a commanding 23-6 lead in the first quarter, which carried over to the second as they extended their advantage to 43-18. Trinity Baptist struggled to score, with SSU holding them to no more than 29 points in the first half.


In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers continued their dominance, limiting Trinity to just 5 of 23 shots from the field. With a 93-42 lead going into the fourth quarter, SSU started strong with a layup from freshman Ja'Siiyah Holmes, pushing their lead to the biggest margin of 105-50.


The Lady Tigers were on fire during their victory against Trinity Baptist, shooting an impressive 47.7 percent as a team from the field. They capitalized on 33 turnovers from Trinity Baptist, scoring 37 points and dominating in the paint with a 70 to 40 advantage.

The SSU bench played a significant role, outscoring the Eagles' bench 44 to 8. Senior guard Amari Heard had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Jacquece Alston contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds. It was a commanding win for SSU over Trinity Baptist College.

Trinity Baptist now falls to 3-3 and will look to get back in the winning column in their next matchup against Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Savannah State will look to keep their undefeated season going as their matchup will be held at Savannah EnMarket on November 21st at 5:30 p.m. where they take on the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
