Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons says he wants to be the “best defensive player” on the Sixers this season.

Simmons' only personal goal for 2019-20 is winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Ben Simmons signed a five-year, $170 million maximum rookie contract extension with the Sixers this summer. Philly has four elite defenders on the team in Simmons, Josh Richardson, Al Horford and Joel Embiid. Expect the Sixers to be a juggernaut on defense this season.

Last season, Simmons averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. He recorded 42 double-doubles and 10 triple-doubles.

For the Sixers to win the title in 2019-20, Simmons will have to have some resemblance of a perimeter game. The lefty has been working hard this offseason on his jump shot and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

Simmons has yet to make a 3-pointer in his NBA career. Let’s see if the 2018 Rookie of the Year makes one in 2019-20.

Many believe the Sixers are the best team in the Eastern Conference after adding Horford and Richardson. Kawhi Leonard left the Toronto Raptors for the Los Angeles Clippers, so the East is wide-open.

Most experts believe Philly and the Milwaukee Bucks will meet in the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals.
