Philadelphia 76ers All-Star point-forward Ben Simmons will play against the Houston Rockets on Friday despite having gastroenteritis.

The Sixers are coming off a road loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. They have a record of 41-24 on the season, which is good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

In 64 games this season for Philly, Ben Simmons is averaging 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 7.9 assists. The lefty is shooting an efficient 56.4 percent from the field.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft has 38 double-doubles and 10 triple-doubles on the season. Simmons has only missed one game all year long.

The Sixers are still without the services of superstar big man Joel Embiid, who is dealing with left knee soreness. Embiid hasn't played since the All-Star break and there's no clear timetable for his return.

With Embiid out, Philly needs Simmons, Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris and J.J. Redick to take their games to another level.

The Rockets, led by reigning MVP James Harden, are 39-25 on the season. Houston has won six games in a row entering Friday. Butler will likely be tasked to try to stop Harden, who is averaging a league-leading 36.7 points per game on the season.

It's good to see that Simmons will play in this game.
