Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard J.J. Redick likes what he's seen with Furkan Korkmaz. He likes it so much that when asked what he thought of the Sixers rookie, Redick couldn't help but blurt out a two-word expletive. Head coach Brett Brown echoed Redick's sentiments.

Via the Newark Star-Ledger:

“Holy s–t. He just came out of nowhere and surprised us,” J.J. Redick told the media.

“He really shot the ball well, and I thought he played well,” Brown said. “We’re all going to walk out of here thinking he made shots, and that’s true, but I thought defensively he did some good things.”

It’s interesting to know just what the young Turk has been doing during Sixers practices to garner such a strong response from a well-traveled veteran like Redick. Whatever it is, it must be good.

Korkmaz, who was drafted No. 26 overall by the Sixers in 2016, will finally come over to the NBA this season after spending last year in Turkey.

The 20-year-old played on the Sixers’ Summer League team this year and had some strong outings as he averaged 14.2 points on 48 percent shooting in five games in Las Vegas. He also had a fine showing for his home country Turkey during the EuroBasket tournament, putting up 10.5 points on 54 percent shooting in 21.6 minutes.

Korkmaz will face some stiff competition to get playing time during his rookie year, with the likes of Robert Covington, Nik Stauskas, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Redick all ahead of him in the Sixers’ wing depth chart. But based on Redick’s reaction, it seems like the rookie could surprise a few people this season.
