Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid is set to return to the court on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Embiid left Sunday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers after six minutes of court time upon sustaining a left ankle injury. He missed the consequent matchup against the Phoenix Suns.

The Sixers are already short-handed without Ben Simmons for the remainder of the season and they will take on a true test against the streaking Raptors, who have won five of their six games since the restart — arguably one of the best teams since the NBA season resumed.

Philadelphia will need Embiid to dominate, even if it is in limited fashion after coming back from an injury. Barring the restart opener against the Indiana Pacers, the Sixers have won every game in which he's played 30 or more minutes, albeit only by single digits.

There's not much hope for Philly down the stretch without a catalyst like Simmons, but if the Sixers are to get past the first round of the playoffs, they will need Embiid at his best to make that happen.

The big man is averaging 23/5 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks through 49 games this season. Tonight's matchup could be the last of the season for Embiid if coach Brett Brown decides to rest him for Friday's season finale against the Houston Rockets, opting for rest over rust.
