The Philadelphia 76ers are hiring long-time San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Ime Udoka to join their coaching staff.

The Athletic's senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported on the development on June 6.

Udoka will fill the vacancy left by Monty Williams, who became the head coach of the Phoenix Suns on May 3. Udoka served as one of Gregg Popovich's assistant coaches with the Spurs from 2012 to 2019.

The Sixers expect Udoka to share his NBA championship experience. He was a member of the coaching staff which helped the Spurs win the 2014 NBA title. Udoka joins Jim O'Brien as one of the Sixers' assistants.

This isn't the first time a member of the Spurs' coaching staff moved to Philadelphia.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown was a coach in the Spurs' basketball operations department during the lockout-shortened 1998-199 NBA season.

The Sixers also hired former Spurs assistant coach Cameron Hodges on Thursday. He will become Philly's player development coach, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Paul Hudrick.

The Sixers continue to make changes as GM Elton Brand puts his thumbprint of the organization.

The team is hiring Cameron Hodges as a player development coach and not renewing the contract of John Townsend, a team source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. The Inquirer's Keith Pompey was the first to report the news.

Sixers general manager Elton Brand has made key changes in the coaching staff. He's confident Udoka and Hodges will exceed his expectations.
