The Philadelphia 76ers have been left a little bit shorthanded in their frontcourt following their blockbuster deal centered around James Harden. As part of the trade, the Sixers sent big man Andre Drummond to the Brooklyn Nets along with Ben Simmons and Seth Curry. The front office has identified their lack of depth in the center position and they have decided to bring in reinforcement.

This comes in the form of seven-foot big man Willie Cauley-Stein, who was waived by the Dallas Mavericks in January (h/t John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia):

Cauley-Stein is no star, but he should be an able backup to Sixers superstar Joel Embiid. Cauley-Stein did not make much of an impact for the Mavericks this season, though, averaging just 1.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 18 games played.

At his best, however, Cauley-Stein is a nightly double-double threat. The 28-year-old, who was selected sixth overall by the Sacramento Kings during the 2015 NBA Draft, will be hoping to bring back his old form now that he's joining one of the best teams in the NBA. He will need to make an impact quickly, though, if he hopes to secure a rest-of-the-season deal with the Sixers.
