The Philadelphia 76ers just got even scarier, trading depth for star power, and landing two-way superstar Jimmy Butler. In exchange, they traded Robert Covington, Dario Saric, and a second-round pick back to the Timberwolves for Butler. If the Sixers can deal Markelle Fultz, then they could be able to sign another max player.

ESPN's Bobby Marks reports that if Philadelphia lets most of their free agents walk besides Jimmy Butler and TJ McConnell, that the team could still have over $20 million in cap space to sign another star next Summer to go with their impending big three.

Philadelphia came in to the season as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, and likely just got better. Similar to Toronto, the team is going all-in to win the East in the first season post-LeBron.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Philly believes they could keep Butler for the long-term. He's a much more promising opetion than Markelle Fultz right now. If they can do that, and somehow land another star or even solid role player in the offseason, then the Boston Celtics and Sixers could have an amazing rivalry at the top of the East for years to come.

Nevertheless, the Sixers have consistently said they will continue to trust the process as Markelle Fultz continues to develop. However, a franchise can change its mind about long-term plans as soon as a big time name hits the market. He has improved significantly, but he'll have to prove he can be the player Philly drafted him to be very soon.
