Philadelphia 76ers guard Trey Burke is confident he'll win the Sixers' backup point guard job.

Burke and Raul Neto will compete for the job. Burke signed with the Sixers in free agency this offseason after playing with the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks last season. He believes he and Ben Simmons can play together as well in the backcourt.

“I think throughout stretches of the game, we can play together and I can be out there with the starting lineup at times,” Burke said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That is the competitor in Trey Burke. That is who I am and what I bring to Philadelphia, if you ask me.

“I have some experience playing off the ball. The short time I was in Dallas, playing with Luka (Doncic) I felt we played really well together in our limited time together, even in New York I played off the ball. We have expectations as a team and I think we have a really complete team and I see myself coming in and having a good role, a good opportunity. I feel like I can be an impact player on the team, given a role and I am just ready to work.”

Trey Burke began his NBA career with the Utah Jazz back in 2013 after being selected with the ninth overall pick out of the University of Michigan. Burke has played for the Jazz, Washington Wizards, Knicks and Mavs. He has career averages of 10.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 361 games while shooting 40.8 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Sixers' projected starting lineup for next season is Ben Simmons, Josh Richardson, Tobias Harris, Al Horford and Joel Embiid. Burke, if he wins the backup job, is expected to run Philly’s offense when Simmons is on the bench getting a breather.
