The Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue reportedly have a “strong” mutual interest in forming a partnership, per Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.
The Sixers fired head coach Brett Brown after getting swept in the first round of the 2020 playoffs by the Boston Celtics. Philadelphia is expected to interview Lue once the Clippers are done at Disney World.
Tyronn Lue has won two championships, one has a player and the other as a coach. He was part of the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers title team and was the head coach of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers squad which won the championship over the Golden State Warriors in seven epic games for the franchise's first-ever title.
With the Cavs, Lue went an impressive 128-83 in the regular season and 41-20 in the playoffs. He was fired on October 28, 2018 after the Cavs got off to a 0-6 start. Cleveland wasn't a title contender after LeBron James left for the Lakers in free agency.
There could be a lot of changes for the Sixers this offseason. Not only will there be a new head coach, but the roster could look different in 2020-21. General manager Elton Brand has to decide what he wants to do with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and Al Horford, four guys who are making max money but aren't good fits next to each other.
