The USMNT and Borussia Dortmund suffered a brutal loss to their rosters on Friday. Only 77 seconds into Dortmund's matchup against VfB Stuttgart, Gio Reyna fell to the turf with a left leg injury. The Athletic reported the news Friday afternoon.

According to the article, Reyna planted his leg awkwardly and instinctively raised it again due to pain. He was able to walk off of the field on his own but went to Dortmund's locker room immediately.

The 19-year-old has struggled with leg injuries throughout his short career. Reyna suffered a hamstring injury in early September that kept him sidelined for six months. He then suffered another leg injury in one of his first games back against Borussia Monchengladbach in mid-February.

Reyna has only played in nine games so far for Dortmund this season, starting in five of them. Meanwhile, through 29 games, the team is 19-3-7 and second in Bundesliga.

The severity of the Dortmund midfielder's injury is unclear. However, according to ESPN, Reyna appeared to have grabbed his hamstring when the latest injury occurred. If it's anything like the one he suffered last September, Reyna could miss crucial games for both Dortmund and the USMNT.

Fortunately, there is a silver lining to this worst-case scenario. Although Reyna would miss many games, he would likely be healthy in time for the United States' contention in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The tournament begins on Monday, November 21.
