Inter Miami manager Tata Martino said on Tuesday that even he had no idea whether or not Messi would play, and it was a game-time decision due to this injury. There was a chance that Messi could have started and come out early, but that ultimately did not occur.

Messi surely wanted to play in this game, but Inter Miami was not willing to risk further injury by sending him on the field if he's not fully healthy. It seems unlikely that Messi will enter the game late as well.
