Argentina vs Italy preview & predictions

Lionel Scaloni's side is one of the strongest teams in the world right now and is expected to be a serious contender to win the World Cup in Qatar later this year. After finally winning Copa America in 2021 by defeating Brazil in the showpiece, they ran through World Cup qualifiers with a 17-6-0 record, finishing as runners-up to the Brazilians. Needless to say, Argentina is in fine form.

The Italians on the other hand, have seen their last numbers of months go from magical to absolutely miserable. Roberto Mancini's side lifted the Euro 2020 trophy but then collapsed in World Cup Qualifying, ending up in the playoff and losing to North Macedonia, which means this is now the second World Cup in a row the Azzurri will miss. That being said, Italy doesn't have much to play for except for the Nations League but the opportunity to win this newly-formed competition will be enticing to them to brighten up their recent struggles.

Both sides aren't dealing with any notable absences, but Argentina is clearly the more in-form team at the moment. The South American giants will come out victorious.
