Usually, leakers and data miners take care of revealing plot details of upcoming video game movies. However, this time around, it's the U.S. government that leaked a coming film's plot. The US Copyright Catalog inadvertently revealed plot details of the coming sequel to the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film. The listing reveals the movie's plot details, as well as some relevant dates, like the project's start date and anticipated conclusion.

We're entering light spoilers territory, so consider yourself warned. You can read on the listing the following plot details for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film:

“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Being directed by Jeff Fowler, and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz.”

Yes! Tails and Knuckles!

As mentioned earlier, the copyright catalog listing includes estimated dates related to the film's release date. The creation of work began around March of this year. It's then expected that filming and post-production will be completed after a full year. If there will be no delays, then we'll probably see trailers for the film by late 2021, and then see the movie in theaters Q2 to Q3 of 2022.

But that's just based on the copyright catalog listing. In fact, Paramount Pictures has already confirmed previously that the next Sonic film will come out on April 8, 2022. Will we be able to see a new Sonic the Hedgehog game by then?
