Danny Green looks like he will be returning to San Antonio for the 2018-19 season. League sources tell Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News that Green will choose to opt-in to the final year of his contract worth $10 million.

Green has spent eight years of his nine-year career in San Antonio where he has carved out a nice role. He is coming off of a year where he averaged 8.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Green is turning 31 on Friday and although he would like the security of a long-term deal, he feels that picking up his option for next season may be the best thing for him. Green spoke to Young about the very notion of seeking a long-term deal:

“I think longevity is the key for must guys especially for guys that are getting older,” said Green. “But there is a lot of options that come into play and (a long-term deal) has crossed my mind.”

While a long-term deal sounds nice, Green's best chance at securing that type of deal could come from a successful season in 2018-19. If he can prove that he isn't over the hill at 31-years of age, someone will come calling with a multi-year deal.

Green has championship pedigree. He was a key contributor on the Spurs team that won the NBA Finals in 2013-14 over LeBron James the Miami Heat. His hard-nosed defense and ability to shoot the three were pivotal to the Spurs success.

If he can show that he still has some of that magic from his younger days, he could be making the right move by betting on himself.
