When Kawhi Leonard and DeMar DeRozan were traded for each other earlier this week, it shocked a lot of people but the most surprised person was probably DeRozan.

DeRozan gave everything he had to the city of Toronto and to the Raptors for nine years and it seemed like it was where he wanted to spend his entire career. The NBA is a business though and the Raptors front office saw an opportunity to become much better and they jumped at the chance.

DeRozan took a couple of days but he did break his silence posting a thank you message to Toronto and all of Canada for all the love they gave him during his time on the team.

DeRozan's caption under the picture states:

“Words could never express what you’ve meant to me. I was just a 19 year old kid from Compton when we first met, but you took me in and embraced me as one of your own. I am so grateful for the Love and Passion that you’ve given me over the past 9 years. All I ever wanted to do was duplicate it 10x over just to show my appreciation. Thank you Toronto, thank you Canada. #Comp10 #ProveEm”

DeRozan was a fan favorite in Toronto and according to the All-Star guard, it was just a few weeks ago that he was promised he wouldn't be traded, which had to make the breakup even more difficult.

As hard as it has to be, he should actually be a nice fit with Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs.
