The San Antonio Spurs have had a rather busy offseason so far. They got some nice pieces in the 2022 NBA Draft but also traded away their star guard, Dejounte Murray. Now, it appears they're also willing to part ways with their starting center, Jakob Poeltl.

Per LJ Ellis of Spurs Talk, the big man is likely to be moved before the 2022-23 season begins:

A Spurs insider tells me that starting center Jakob Poeltl is likely to be traded by the start of the season. Now that Ayton is back with the Suns, the market for Poeltl should begin to heat up. Josh Richardson is also actively being shopped by the Spurs and could find a new home sooner rather than later.

Poeltl is a solid piece at the five and would give lots of teams rebounding and scoring around the hoop. Ellis also mentioned the Spurs are looking to potentially include Poeltl and/or Josh Richardson in any package for Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, or Kyrie Irving. Essentially, the goal is to get another unprotected draft pick in return. That is priority number one.

The Spurs are evidently going young and building for the future. San Antonio nabbed Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, and Blake Wesley all in the first round last month. The franchise is certainly heading in the right direction but it will be a while until they contend.

Poeltl was acquired by the Spurs in the summer of 2018 in the Kawhi Leonard-DeMar DeRozan trade. Last season, he averaged 13.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 67 games played. That was his best campaign yet therefore it's not surprising to think a lot of teams will be showing interest in the Austrian.
