Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his elbow against the Seattle Seahawks. The situation looks grim for the long-time franchise quarterback, and it looks like surgery may be required to fix his arm.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported about the situation that will surely make Steelers fans even more pessimistic about their chances to finish top of the AFC North.

The elbow inflammation on his throwing arm has been something that affected the Steelers quarterback during the week leading up to the game. The hit on him didn't necessarily hit his elbow, but it was enough to make him unable to play through the pain any further.

If the doctors determine that he can't recover quickly without surgery, the team could see their star quarterback out for awhile. This puts the 0-2 Steelers in a bit of personnel trouble.

Fortunately, the Steelers have a capable backup in Mason Rudolph. The second-year quarterback managed to keep the team in contention with his plays. He threw for 112 yards and two touchdowns on a 12-for-19 passing clip.

Not only is he capable of playing well on the field, but he is also playing with the right mindset. He told reporters that he's more than ready to step up if Big Ben misses considerable game time.

“I am completely confident in myself, being a leader on the team and playing games,” Rudolph said, per Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport. “That's what it all comes down to. If (Roethlisberger is out a while), I'm ready to roll.”

Roethlisberger just came off his most impressive season as a pro at 36 years old. He threw for 5,129 yards and 34 touchdowns. He led the NFL in passing yards, pass attempts, and pass completions.

Steeler Nation will be hoping that their star quarterback will be able to recover. However, they shouldn't hold their breath, as surgery is looking like a good possibility.
