The Pittsburgh Steelers finally saw their time with Le'Veon Bell come to a bitter end after a holdout in 2018 as well as other contract disputes in the past. Now that Bell has moved and got the long-term deal he desired with the New York Jets, he's out to prove he's worth every bit of the hefty contract he signed just a week ago.
As far as his time with the Steelers goes, Bell has maintained a short memory and recounts some of the reasons why he wanted to move on from Pittsburgh.
Bell was fantastic in his time with the Steelers, and after failing time and time again to come to an agreement on a desired long-term deal, the tension between both parties was obvious. Although Bell was technically on the team in 2018, he did not play a single game and surrendered $14.5 million for holding out last season.
Bell stated in the Sports Illustrated interview that the team has a “great owner and coach,” but he said the team doesn't “treat you like you're human.” A harsh characterization of the organization considering he is no longer with the team, but Bell did back up his opinion by giving examples that video games and making music were more or less frowned upon in Pittsburgh.
The New York Jets get a fantastic, All-Pro caliber running back and Bell is out to prove his worth next season. As the 2019 season approaches, it'll be extremely crucial for Bell to build a strong relationship with young quarterback Sam Darnold and turn the offense around in a big way.
