Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner recently contracted the COVID-19 and tested positive for the virus, as per NFL Network‘s Aditi Kinkhabwala. The 25-year-old will await a second test to confirm the positive result. The team has recently placed three players on the reserve/COVID-19 list including an unnamed assistant coach who also tested positive for the virus.

Conner was previously diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2015 along with battling cancer dating back to his days as a letterman for the Pittsburgh Panthers. He was eventually declared cancer-free a year later.

The fourth-year rusher still managed to appear in the team's most recent tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11 proceedings. He came out with a huge performance and led the offense's ground attack with 89 rushing yards on 13 carries en route to a 27-3 win by the Steelers.

The news came days after the Baltimore Ravens had a virus outbreak of their own which caused them to close down their training facility. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson headline the list of infected members of the organization including a handful of other players and coaches.

Both the Steelers and the Ravens were slated to face off on Thanksgiving Day but the game was eventually rescheduled for Tuesday night on December 1. The postponement ultimately caused a domino effect as the Ravens' Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys was also pushed from December 3 to December 7.

Heading into Week 12 of the season, the Steelers remain atop the AFC North competition with an unblemished 10-0 record while the Ravens currently hold a 6-4 tally to settle in third place in the same division.
