The Pittsburgh Steelers have potentially put in place their eventual replacement for longtime starter Ben Roethlisberger with the selection of Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. There had been some talk about the organization heading in that direction especially with the talent level in this year's class at the position.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Steelers had reportedly had Rudolph ranked as a high as any of the top projected quarterbacks that were taken in this year's draft.

Before the NFL Draft, the 22-year-old was seen as one of the more well-rounded quarterbacks that has a strong and accurate arm. He also has great size at the position standing at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds that is a bit similar to the body frame that Roethlisberger possesses.

The fact that the Steelers were able to get him in the third round while rating him as one of the top quarterbacks in this year's class should speak to how highly they value him to their long-term future. He has a chance to be behind a future Hall of Famer for the first couple of years of his career that should help him learn what it takes it to succeed at the next level both on and off the field.

This could potentially be the ideal spot for him to develop his skill set and flesh out a long NFL career that may see him one day become the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh.
