Ben Roethlisberger's time with the Pittsburgh Steelers appears to be coming to an end. The Steelers have been atrocious to start the new season, and unfortunately for him, Roethlisberger has been the team's biggest scapegoat thus far.

At this point, people are already talking about calling it a career for the two-time Super Bowl champ, who quite frankly, is now just a shadow of his former self. According to former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum now is the time for the Steelers to start finding a replacement for their 39-year-old QB (h/t ESPN's Get Up on Twitter):

Tannenbaum actually has a point here. Being a former GM (and an ex-vice president for the Miami Dolphins as well), Tannenbaum can be considered as somewhat of an authority in these matters. Cam Newton is still a free agent, and while he too is no longer the dominant force he once was, he could prove to be an able replacement for Roethlisberger.

Another option would be Dwayne Haskins, who's already on the Steelers roster right now. He could also emerge as a formidable QB1 for Pittsburgh as the former Ohio State standout looks to resurrect his career.

Tannenbaum also raises a valid argument about the Steelers needing to have as much leverage as possible if and when they enter the negotiating table for a possible blockbuster trade for the likes of Jimmy Garappolo or even Aaron Rodgers.

The one thing that stands in the way here, however, is Roethlisberger's relationship with the Steelers. He's been their main man for so many years, and at this point, their loyalty could stand in the way of making what could possibly be the right decision.
