Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has a focus in mind for his superstar forward Kevin Durant once he makes his first start after a 38-day absence from the floor. Following an extensive recovery and rehabilitation period, Durant will have the green light offensively with Stephen Curry being declared out for the game due to a left knee contusion.

But Kerr's worries aren't based on Durant's innate ability to put the ball in the basket, but rather wants him to focus on the defensive end the floor, aspect which Golden State has made its calling card since he was sidelined with his knee injuries.

“I told him ‘defense and rebounding,' I'm not concerned about the offense,” Kerr told reporters prior to Saturday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. “He's gonna score points, even if he's not shooting well, he's gonna score points.”

“The whole thing as soon as we start out playoff run next week is we gotta be locked-in defensively. So that has to be his focus tonight and the next two nights before Game 1.”

Kerr assured there would be no minutes limitations for Durant, but how long he plays would be rather based on his level of conditioning and fatigue.

“I can't imagine that in his first game back that we'll run him huge minutes,” Kerr said. “So we'll probably check in with him, see how he's feeling. As soon as I see him fatiguing, lagging a little bit, I'll take him out.”

The Warriors will face a depleted New Orleans team without three of their starters, including their one-two punch frontcourt of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins — thing that will give Kerr and his coaching staff maximum flexibility when it comes to making changes and trying different lineup combinations alongside his All-Star forward.
