A brand-new psychological horror game is here to spook you out of your pants this Summer. Here’s everything you need to know about Still Wakes the Deep, including its release date, gameplay, story, and trailers.

Still Wakes the Deep Release Date: June 18, 2024

Still Wakes the Deep was released on June 18, 2024, on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game was developed by UK studio The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs), and was published by Sumo Group Limited subsidiary Secret Mode.

Still Wakes the Deep Story

Still Wakes the Deep has players taking control of electrician Caz McLeary as he tries to traverse the dangerous hazards of the crashing oil rig Beira D, smack dab in the middle of the North Sea. The harsh weather has made the tide rise and the fog thicken. Strange things – sounds – are propping up.

It is December 1975. It’s cold. The oil rig, in the middle of the ocean, is lonely. Catastrophe strikes, and you’re left to fend for yourself – for survival – going against the weather, the oil rig’s unforgiving metal frame, and whatever that is that’s started stalking you. A mysterious creature you can’t see – you wish you didn’t end up seeing – that’s relentlessly pursuing you.

Still Wakes the Deep Gameplay

Still Wakes the Deep is what can be described poorly as a walking simulator. It’s not a nice way to describe it but if you’re not fond of games remotely like that, then this game might not be for you. As the player, you will be navigating the tight spaces of the oil rig, trying not to get yourself flung into the ocean in the process. There will be environmental puzzles, as well as thrilling chases.

There is no combat. You are an electrician – no weapons, no tools to fight back the unknown entity trailing you. No fighting experience, just the dread of a pursuing unknown force catching up with you. So you go forward. You run. You go through spaces only trapped mice would dare go through – all because you’re trying to escape this forsaken oil rig – and whatever that is behind your back.
