Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, who jammed his left big toe in practice last week, reportedly will play in the team's regular-season opener for the 2023-24 NBA season Tuesday night at Chase Center versus Chris Paul and the Golden State Warriors.

The Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin posted on X he was told by Booker he would be playing. Booker is listed as probable on the Suns' injury report for Tuesday, according to Rankin.

Booker, who is the Suns' franchise player, did not play in the team's final preseason game last Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers. Booker practiced Sunday and Monday, according to Suns coach Frank Vogel.

With Booker in, the Suns will have at least two of their three stars on the floor against the Warriors. Kevin Durant was not on Monday's injury report from the team, but guard Bradley Beal, who the team traded Paul to the Washington Wizards for, is dealing with back tightness and is unlikely to play, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Booker's health is important for the Suns. Vogel spoke Sunday about preserving his star over an 82-game season. Booker struggled with a left groin injury before he returned late in the regular season in 2022-23.

“Make all decisions on all injuries on a case-by-case basis,” Vogel said. “I'm a, ‘pro play,' guy, if guys are healthy.”

Booker in the 2022-23 playoffs led all players in points per game (33.7). He became the first player since the legendary Michael Jordan to have 295 points through the first eight games of any playoff run.

Booker, who is 26, is recognized by most as a top-10 player in the NBA. In 2020-21, he set a league record for most points (601) by a player in their first-ever playoff run at 24 years old. Booker and the Suns have been the winningest team in basketball in the last three seasons and are looking to win a championship in 2023-24.
