With the 2018 NBA Playoffs in full swing, the Phoenix Suns have already shifted gears toward the offseason. The first item on their list will be acquiring a new head coach.

Among the candidates to have already interviewed for the position is Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer. However, according to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Budeholzer has withdrawn his bid from the Suns' job:

Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer has withdrawn from consideration for the Phoenix Suns head coaching job, league sources tell ESPN.

Budenholzer began his coaching career under the tutelage of San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. After enjoying massive success in San Antonio he was hired by Atlanta prior to the 2013-14 NBA season. His tenure with the Hawks got off to a solid start and was even named NBA's Coach of the year in the 2015-16 season for the team's 60-win campaign that saw them finish as the No. 1 seed in the East. Needless to say, Atlanta has experienced quite a drop off since then.

The Suns' front office had met with Budeholzer earlier in the week, however, it seems their discussions were never able to pick up any steam. Fortunately, the Suns have met with a number of candidates including David Fizdale and interim coach Jay Triano. They have also reportedly had discussions with Steve Clifford, Kevin McHale, and Frank Vogel.

Although the team has been mired in a rut over the past couple of years, there is plenty to be intrigued about with this young group moving forward. This could be why they have so many options to work with when making their decision for their next head coach.
