Luka Doncic and Slovenia qualified for the Olympics for the first time ever last week and Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich knows just how special Luka's squad can be with the Mavs star at the forefront.

Pop recently spoke on the matter when asked about Slovenia and Doncic, via NBA.com's Michael Wright:

One of the best players in the world is right. Team USA won't actually play Slovenia in the group phase of the Tokyo Olympics, but Popovich knows Doncic could lead them to a deep run.

The Slovenian sniper is coming off another tremendous season for Dallas, despite a first-round exit against the Clippers. The former Euroleague star averaged 27.7 points, eight rebounds, and 8.6 assists in 2020/21.

Team USA boss Popovich sees Doncic on a regular basis since they do play not away from the Spurs in San Antonio and he knows what the youngster is capable of on the basketball court.

As for Slovenia, they will play Angola and Poland in the group stages of the Olympics. That will be easy work for Luka, who will likely ball out on opponents who are far below his level. Maybe we'll even see Pop and Team USA come up against Doncic in the knockout phase. That would definitely be must-see TV.
