The Texas football program is expecting quarterback Quinn Ewers to miss some time after he suffered an AC joint sprain during the team's win over Houston on Saturday, and Steve Sarkisian detailed the plan in practice with Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning this week.

Steve Sarkisian said that the Texas football program will, “go through the week with Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning both getting first-team reps,” according to Steve Samra of on3.com. But, “If the game was being played today, Maalik would start the game,” Sarkisian said. “Again, arch will be ready to go.”

Sarkisian and Texas have hope that Quinn Ewers will return from his sprain, but there is no timetable for his return as of now. The Longhorns have games against BYU, Kansas State, TCU, Iowa State and Texas Tech to close out the Big 12 slate. They might have to deal without Ewers for the majority, if not all of those games.

Of course, there is a lot of hype surrounding Manning because of the name and his status as a recruit. However, he is a freshman and might not be ready for game action just yet. It will be interesting to see if he can earn playing time while Ewers is out. Given that he is going to get first-team reps this week, it seems as if he will have the chance to earn game reps.

The Longhorns still have hope for the College Football Playoff if they can win the Big 12, so there is incentive for Sarkisian to play the better quarterback regardless.
