The Los Angeles Lakers were pitted for a title challenge this season. Unfortunately, it has not gone well. The start has been up-and-down, with LeBron James holding it down with another amazing stretch of basketball. As they have a veteran squad, built for winning now, the Lakers really do not have another option but to do just that.

But it will definitely be a challenge. Thus, the Lakers have been active in the trade market. There are many potential trades being reported each day, and Jerami Grant has not been left out of these. The Detroit Pistons forward is having another great season, but it is somewhat wasted in Motown. The Pistons are 9-30 and completely out of the playoff race.

So, as Grant needs a different scenery and the Lakers need a spark, here is the perfect trade the Purple & Gold must offer the Pistons for the two-way stud.

Perfect Lakers trade offer for Pistons' Jerami Grant

Lakers get Jerami Grant and Pistons get Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn

This trade depends on whether the Pistons think they can really get more out of Grant. The Lakers cannot offer much more, as they are spending most of their cap on LeBron, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook. However, this offer is still very good for both squads. The Lakers get a capable scorer who will put up points and help LeBron get the squad where they need to be. The Pistons will get some solid rotational pieces and a potentially great player in Horton-Tucker.

First, for the Pistons, this trade makes sense for several reasons. THT is in a fairly similar position that Grant was in before he was signed by the Pistons. The Lakers youngster is playing for a great squad where he is a solid contributor, but if given the space and trust needed, he could be an even greater player. His full potential will not be fulfilled in Los Angeles, as it is LBJ and Davis who run the show. By giving him a chance, the Pistons get two years of THT for around $20 million altogether, while Grant is costing them $20 million for this and next season.

In addition to being cheaper, Horton-Tucker is only 21 years old while Grant is nearing being 28. If THT does not work out right away, the Pistons still have time and trust to give him, while Grant is currently starting his prime and this is the absolute best Detroit can do with him on the roster. This is not to say that the Pistons would be doing amazingly without Grant, on the contrary, they would lose even more. Still, if this trade happens, the age of Horton-Tucker suggests that he fits the timeline of the squad better.

With the Lakers sending Nunn too, he is a great rotational piece for any team and he comes at just around $5 million this season with a player option of around the same number. He is a great defender and his experience of coming into the league through unguaranteed contracts and not even being selected in the draft might give perspective to the Pistons players who are also fairly young. In short, with THT and Nunn, the Pistons are getting a cheaper and younger roster. Losing Grant will hurt them in the short run, but benefit them mightly in the long run.

The Lakers, on the other hand, should do the trade for a plethora of reasons. The most important one is that they really need a strong shock to the system. The Lakers are 21-20 and are in a dire fight for the postseason. Even being over .500 is a huge success, since the Westbrook trade has been abysmal and Davis has missed more than half the season already. LeBron needs help and he needs it badly. Westbrook will occasionally bring it, AD will be out for a few weeks more, and the rest of the roster cannot be consistently counted on. Grant, on the other hand, can.

Grant is a great scorer and someone who can do it in different ways. His most proficient methods are dribble-drive penetrations and his outside shots, both of which he can get when playing next to The King. LeBron can find him in different positions for outside shots or feed him with his amazing passes when he is entering the lane. The Lakers offense with Grant would look significantly better than it currently does.

Losing THT and Nunn would hurt, obviously, but they are the only two moveable pieces on the Lakers roster. In simpler terms, when a guy like Grant becomes available, a team in the position that the Lakers are in does not hesitate to pull the trigger on the trade. If they want a living, breathing chance at a championship, the Lakers should be pushing the Pistons for this Jerami Grant trade.
